Also worth noting: After Joesph's op-ed appeared, APS sent around an email to its membership urging people to write to Congress on the issue:

Fill in your address on the form and it will automatically load up contact info for your Senators and Representative and give a sample letter which you can then edit. Well worth doing (and yes, available even for non-physicists....)
